WY-ICARE exists to advance climate action and environmental resilience. This policy commits the organisation to manage its own operations sustainably and to apply environmental safeguards across all programmes, partnerships and procurement.
It applies to all offices, field activities, events, travel, supply chains and digital infrastructure of WY-ICARE.
Climate footprint: measure and annually report organisational emissions from travel, energy and procurement; set reduction targets and address residual emissions through credible, locally led initiatives.
Sustainable operations: prioritise renewable energy, water efficiency, waste reduction, reuse and recycling in all offices and field sites.
Green procurement: apply environmental criteria to supplier selection, favouring local, durable, repairable and low-carbon goods and services.
Sustainable programming: every programme completes an environmental screening; activities that degrade ecosystems, deplete water or increase community climate risk are redesigned or rejected.
WASH investments must protect water tables and include maintenance plans; energy projects prioritise safe e-waste handling; agriculture programmes promote soil health, agroforestry and reduced agrochemical use; and tree-planting commitments include survival-rate monitoring for a minimum of three years.
The Board reviews environmental performance annually. Staff receive environmental induction, and each programme maintains an environmental risk register reviewed at every MEAL cycle. Concerns can be raised via contact@wyicare.org.
